hi friends!
presenting the second edition of our BBB08 vendor profile series featuring the wonderful ex libris anonymous. enjoy!

Hi there! First things first: What's your name, where are you from, what's your business name, and where are you currently located?
Jacob Storm Deatherage, owner/ operator of Ex Libris Anonymous (( bookjournals.com )) I'm from the Pacific Northwest and am currently living and working in Portland, Or
How did you get your start? Please tell us a little bit about how your business went from an idea to what is is today.
Really, it was just an exercise in necessity. I'm an avid book artist and collector who worked, at the time, in the junking industry. So I had access to a LOT of really beautiful books. I just ran out of room in the apartment and developed a strategy for making use of them. I developed a tool that makes it possible to punch through almost anything and the rest is history.
What inspires you the most to create?
The threat of homelessness.

What are your favorite materials to work with? Do you have a favorite color palette?
Spring colors all year long. Billboard sized swaths of #ff701a
Who are some of your favorite indie artist/crafters and why do you love them?
Lately I've been super into jewelery and screenprinting. Specifically Gia at Unearthen (( http://www.seeunearthen.com/ )) Crystals with bullets? Yes, please!
Any exciting future plans or developments in the works for your business? (Nothing TOP-SECRET, of course!)
We process thousands and thousands of books every single month and i'm excited about a project that i'm working on to use more of the existing illustrations and images from the books that aren't used in the manufacturing process of the journals. Hush hush!
What are some other things you like to do when you are not busy making awesome stuff?
Gathering mushrooms, gardening, fermenting foods and summer (( fruit )) wines. Preserving food, rollerskating.

What are the top 3 reasons someone shopping at the BBB 2008 should be sure to stop by your table?
I am going to overwhelm Boston with books this year!
What is your favorite song or album to listen to while working?
The Harry Potter books read by Jim Dale. Other great audiobooks this year: Under the banner of Heaven by John Krakauer, The shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein, The omnivores dilemma by Michael Pollan.
Your favorite celebrity or historical figure (dead or alive) shops at your table at the BBB and makes a purchase (work with me here). Who are they, what did they buy and why did it catch their eye?
Samuel Clemens bought one of his own books because he understood, without reference to our time, the irony.
Thanks, Jacob!
